GPUs suited for game development

This list includes GPUs suited for game development in Unity, Unreal Engine 5, and Godot Engine. Requirements vary hugely with the kind and scale of game, so the baseline here is the minimum for a workable UE5 editor experience. 2D and small 3D projects can get by with less.

GeForce RTX 3060 12GB is used as the minimum baseline model for game development. Models with less than 4 GB of VRAM are excluded from this list regardless of score.

This evaluation assumes the system has a CPU, memory, and storage configuration that is sufficient for the task.

What to Check Beyond the Score

  • Shader compilation and light baking lean heavily on the CPU and memory too — the GPU is not the whole story.
  • If you plan to push UE5's Lumen/Nanite seriously, aim for a class above this baseline.
